Scammell Pioneer 1980's
Back in 1988 a rusting and vandalised Scammell
Pioneer built around 1943, was rescued from a field in Burscough
and a huge project started.
The Scammell had been owned by Mr Edward
Silcock for use in the Silcock Bros travelling fair and had been
left in the field when they brought a Scammell Explorer to replace
it. It was his Grandson, Herbert Jnr that took on the task to
restore the vehicle and therein started a project that has lasted
15 years.
The Scammell was driven to their base at
Southport's Pleasureland (it started within the first few pulls)
where it was cleaned up and a basic primer applied. Due to time
and the availability of manpower, the Scammell project was put on
the shelf for a few years and every winter when the team had time
a bit more work was done. |
